The Jesus Way

Anna Stodolak hits another winner. Love her perspectives. Thx Anna. Keep the hits a commin. Stay tuned.

On my way to church last Saturday "The Jesus Way" by Phil Whickam came on my Sirius radio station, "The Message". As you all know by now, songs that I hear on the radio tend to inspire me. So again, I thought I would probe into the message of this song.

If you curse me then I will bless you

If you hurt me I will forgive

And if you hate me then I will love you

I choose the Jesus way

If you're helpless I will defend you

And if you're burdened I'll share the weight

And if you're hopeless then let me show you

There's hope in the Jesus way

Chorus:

I will follow Jesus

I will follow Jesus

He wore my sin

I'll gladly wear His name

He is the treasure

He is the answer

Oh I choose the Jesus way

If You strike me I will embrace you

And if you chain me I'll sing His praise

And if you kill me my home is heaven

For I choose the Jesus way

Chorus

I choose surrender

I choose to love

Oh God my savior

You'll always be enough

I choose forgiveness

I choose grace

I choose to worship

No matter what I face

I choose the Jesus way

I choose the Jesus way

I choose the Jesus way

I choose the Jesus way

Chorus

Oh I choose the Jesus way

This song serves as a compelling testament to a life shaped by the teachings and example of Jesus, characterized by love, forgiveness, grace, and surrender. I plan to highlight key lyrics alongside corresponding Bible verses to deepen the connection and meaning.

"If you curse me, then I will bless you"

This lyric echoes Jesus’ teaching from the Sermon on the Mount. It’s about responding to hostility not with retaliation, but with kindness and blessing.

Romans 12:14 - Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse." and Matthew 5:44 - But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."

"If you hurt me, I will forgive"

Forgiveness is central to Jesus’ message. This line speaks to the power of releasing bitterness and choosing mercy, just as Jesus forgave those who crucified Him.

Ephesians 4:32 - "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." and Colossians 3:13b "forgive as the Lord forgave you."

“If you hate me, then I will love you."

This is perhaps the most radical part of Jesus’ way, loving enemies. It's a call to unconditional love, not based on how others treat us.

Luke 6:27 - But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.

"If you are burdened, I'll share the weight."

This reflects the heart of servanthood. Jesus carried the burdens of others, physically, emotionally, spiritually. The lyric invites us to do the same, to be present and compassionate.

Galatians 6:2 - "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

"He wore my sin, I'll gladly wear His name."

This is a declaration of identity. Jesus took on our sin at the cross, and in return, we take on His name, Christian, as a badge of honor and a commitment to live like Him.

2 Corinthians 5:21 - "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

I choose surrender, I choose love" and I choose forgiveness, I choose grace"

These lines are a personal vow. They spotlight that following Jesus isn't passive, it's a daily intentional choice.

"Matthew 16:24 - Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me."

This song isn’t just about what you believe, it’s about how you live. It’s a challenge to walk out your faith, especially when it’s tough. The way of Jesus flips the script on what the world says is normal, but it’s the road that leads to real peace, deep purpose, and a life that truly matters.

Make it a Tranquil Thursday! God is good…
