Pride

Ellen Martell, responding to Rick’s devo, Father Knows Best. I think most of us can relate to Rick and Ellen. I appreciate their honesty.

This is honesty the way honesty needs to be. I think many or maybe most people that take pride in their work try to do things not just by themselves but to the very best of their (our) ability . I used to be like Rick. My reason was that although yes I was raised to work hard at no matter what the task, but to strive for excellence I grew to want…need to have that acknowledged if not praised. I actually probably still do…if I’m honest . But as I have gotten older and had many health problems, I can no longer do things myself. Even things I do myself I don’t do to the point of excellence, in fact I take lots of shortcuts

But I still want that acknowledgement and praise.

Pride is a weakness in me. God has allowed me to absolutely definitely need others. I seek Him in all things or at least mean to. And He reminds me that my pride is meaningless compared to His abundant provision. He reminds me because I need reminding like this devotional reminded me today.

Pride comes before a fall" is a popular adage adapted from the biblical verse Proverbs 16:18, which states, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall". It serves as a timeless warning that excessive arrogance and overconfidence often blind people to their own weaknesses, ultimately leading to their ruin.

Ultimately, embracing humility acts as the antidote to this cycle. By recognizing one's own limitations and treating others with respect, a person remains grounded and open to the learning opportunities necessary for Much love and gratitude, Ellen❤️🙋‍♀️

Make it a Motivating Monday! God is good…
