Prayer Support

Anna Stodolak shares another gem with us today. Ty Anna. Keep ‘em coming.

I wrote this back in February and after reading Chris devotional and Joyce and Gina’s  Joyce's responses to it, I remembered that I wrote this about people supporting and praying for one another. I haven't gone to many Tuesday evening prayer meetings but every Tuesday night, I say a prayer for all the ones that do attend.

"My Oh My" by Slade (1983)

I believe in Woman, my oh my

I believe in loving, my oh my

Don't a woman need a man?

Try to catch one if you can

I believe in woman, my oh my

We all need someone to talk to, my oh my

We all need someone to talk to, my oh my

You need a shoulder to cry on

Call me, I'll be standing by

We all need someone to talk to, my oh my

We all need a lot of loving, my oh my

Get a whole lot of loving, my oh my

I could lend a helping hand

If you ain't got nothing planned

We all need a lot of loving, my oh my

Oh, yeah

Oh, oh, oh

Yeah

So let's all swim together, my oh my

We can all swim together, my oh my

You've got troubles of your own

No need to face them all alone

We can all swim together, my oh my

So let's all go together, my oh my

Yeah, let's all pull together, my oh my

We can ride the stormy weather

If we all get out and try

So let's all pull together, my oh my

Let us all pull together, my oh my

Now you are probably saying to yourself, "What does this song have to do with the bible and how is she going to make it into a devotional?"

There are moments in life when the world feels heavy, when the days stretch long and the nights feel longer. "My Oh My" captures that feeling. the sense that life can be hard, lonely, or uncertain. Woven through the song is a quiet insistence on hope, togetherness, and the belief that things can change. It has a very uplifting, almost prayer like tone which makes it surprisingly easy to pair with biblical themes.

"My Oh My" is essentially a power ballad about:

Holding on to hope when life feels heavy

The importance of unity and togetherness

Believing things can get better

Encouraging one another through difficult times

The song highlights the importance of holding onto hope, even when the world feels burdensome or uncertain.

Romans 15:13 "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the holy Spirit"

Psalm 42:11 "Put your hope in God, for I will praise him, my Savior and my God"

The chorus stresses that life is better when people support each other. One of the strongest themes in the song is unity. How much lighter life becomes when we stand side by side.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one because they have better reward for their labors: if either falls, one can help the other up"

Psalm 133:1 "How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity"

Woven through the song is a quiet insistence on hope, togetherness, and the belief that things can change.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 " Therefor encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are doing"

Hebrews 10:24-25 "And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds, not giving up meeting with one another, as some are in the habit of doing but encouraging one another"

"My Oh My" carries a sense of longing for brighter days.Scripture meets that longing with promise:

John 1:5 "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it"

Psalm 30:5 "Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning"

Hope isn't wishful thinking, It's a way of saying that darkness doesn't get the last say. Even when we can't see what's ahead, God is already moving in ways we can't see.

Make it a Significant Saturday! God is good
