Mold Causes

Bobby brings us this very clear devotional on dealing with sin in our lives. This is so good and practical.

What’s Causing Your Mold?

A few years back I had a problem with black mold in the corner of my garage. So I cleaned the mold off and repainted the wall. Looked good for a while but this year it came back with a vengeance. You see, the mold was on the surface but the problem was the moisture seeping through the block. No matter how many times I clean off the mold, it will keep coming back until I address the water problem outside. So I dug a ditch and laid pipe to direct the water away from the foundation.

This made me think about recurring sin in our lives. God is faithful and forgives us when we confess our sins to Him. The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 5:20,21. “The law came in that the transgression might increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

But then he goes on in chapter 6:1,2. “What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace might increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?

So how do we deal with recurring sin in our lives? We have to identify what is it that triggers the sin.

If the problem is alcoholism, don’t go to bars and don’t have it at the house to tempt you.

If the problem is pornography, don’t visit those websites and don’t watch tv shows that trigger those temptations.

If the problem is gluttony, don’t go to all you can eat buffets.

If the problem is gossip, don’t engage in conversations that talk about people behind their backs.

Whatever the sin, the enemy knows our weaknesses and exploits them to tempt us.

The more time we spend in the Word of God and in prayer, the stronger we will be when the enemy attacks. Psalm 119:11

“Thy word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee.”

All sin begins in the mind. Paul tells us in

Romans 12:2. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Pray that God will produce in you the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22,23

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; against such things there is no law.”

It’s time to deal with what’s causing the mold in our lives.

Make it a Teachable Tuesday! God is good…
