Awakening Faith

I don’t know if you watched the World Cup Sooner match between the United States and Australia last week, but the patriotism and exuberance of the American fans was almost exciting as the match itself. Long after the game fans were still celebrating. Something similar happened in the last World Cup with the small African nation of Ghana. Years ago I had the opportunity to visit Ghana  on a mission trip. Ghana is a very poor country much like Haiti. There isn’t much for them to celebrate. I came across this article and it explains it so well. It was entitled Awakening Faith in the Muslim World published by the International Leadership Institute.

It was 2022, and I stood in Accra, Ghana. I was meeting with Christian marketplace leaders, reflecting on what God had been teaching us that week. Suddenly, a mighty roar erupted across the city. People poured into the streets, shouting, dancing, and celebrating.

My friend smiled and said, “Ghana has scored.” The World Cup was underway, and in a heated match with Uruguay, the nation was enthralled. The goal would later be overturned, but that didn’t matter. What struck me was the power of that moment: no one had to instruct them on how to celebrate. They simply knew. Their joy was contagious, their unity unmistakable.

I couldn’t shake the thought: what if our worship of Jesus carried that same kind of unmistakable overflow? What if the joy of knowing Christ erupted from us so naturally that the world couldn’t help but notice?

Psalm 96 says, “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” Worship was never meant to stay private. It fuels our witness. It compels us to declare His glory everywhere we go.

The roar of the crowd that day in Accra reminded me: true worship spills out. It transforms our lives and invites the world to see Jesus.

Does your worship overflow into your witness?

Make it a Meaningful Monday! God is good…
