SURRENDERED

Tara Mihalko

Tara Mihalko shares her thoughts with us today. You’re going to love this. I pray it will encourage you and challenge you in your relationship with the Lord.

As I’ve watched the baby robins, cardinals and the sparrows sit underneath the wings of their mamas. And within a few weeks, they are following mama around learning how to eat and do things on their own. The ultimate goal is to spread their wings and they become their own.

So similar to what us human parents do for our children. We are to raise them up right. Give them a foundation and let them spread their wings and fly.

As the birds spread their wings, it’s time for them to go. And the mama lets them go. For us as parents it is surrender. Surrender to the Father. The one who created them. Our children are lent to us. What a privilege to be a parent.

Within the last year, I surrendered my son. (He’ll be 21) It was not an easy thing to do. Not in the least. But once I did, I got a freedom. A freedom of knowing that my Father in heaven has him in the palm of His hand. The worrying, the what ifs, the trying to control their life outcome, all went away. That’s not part of our job as parents.

Matthew 6:26-27 “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious, can add a single hour to his span of life?”

Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

I had always prayed this before I actually did this. “God he is yours first and mine second,” And that’s very easy to say, but when you have to put into action, that surrender, the knowing, that God has them. When you know God intimately, you can trust that He has our children. He is in far better hands with our amazing Father than mine.

Just as those mama birds in the beginning of their babies lives, keep them under their wings; so too, will God keep them, our children, under His wings.

Psalms 91:4 “He will cover you with his pinions (feathers), and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and a buckler.”

Make it a Surrendering Saturday. God is good…
