Story of Ruth

Dave Walls says probably my favorite book in the Old Testament.

The Story of Ruth- Faithful in the Fields

“Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” — Ruth 1:16

Ruth’s story is one of faithfulness, courage, humility, and redemption.

Ruth had every reason to walk away. She had lost her husband, and her future was uncertain. Yet when Naomi encouraged her to return to her own people, Ruth made a remarkable choice: she stayed.

She didn’t know what the future held. She simply knew who she was choosing to walk with—and she chose Naomi and, ultimately, the God of Israel.

Ruth then entered a season of humble work, gathering leftover grain in the fields just to provide for Naomi and herself. She wasn’t looking for recognition. She was simply being faithful with what was in front of her.

And that’s an important lesson for us:

God often does some of His greatest work in ordinary seasons.

Ruth was working in a field, but God was working in her life.

Eventually, Ruth met Boaz—a man of integrity who became her redeemer and husband. Their story became part of God’s greater plan. Ruth, a woman who had once been an outsider, became part of the family line leading to King David and ultimately Jesus Christ.

What looked like loss was becoming the beginning of redemption.

What Ruth teaches us

1. Stay faithful when you don’t understand the future.
Ruth couldn’t see where her decision would lead. Neither can we always. Faith means taking the next step with God even when we cannot see the whole road.

2. Don’t underestimate small acts of faithfulness.
Ruth simply showed up and worked hard. God used those ordinary actions to change her entire future.

3. God sees you in your difficult season.
Ruth may have felt forgotten, but she wasn’t. God was quietly arranging circumstances she couldn’t yet see.

4. Your story isn’t finished.
Ruth’s greatest chapter came after one of the hardest seasons of her life. A season of grief and uncertainty became a season of purpose, love, and blessing.

❤️ Reflection

Maybe you’re in a Ruth season right now—doing the best you can, working hard, trusting God, but not knowing what comes next.

Don’t give up.

Keep walking faithfully.
Keep doing what is right.
Keep trusting God’s timing.
Keep your heart humble.

You may only see the field. God sees the whole story.

Father God, Give me the faith of Ruth—the courage to follow You when I cannot see what lies ahead.

Help me remain faithful in ordinary things. When life brings loss, uncertainty, or disappointment, remind me that You are still working even when I cannot see it.

Give me strength to keep moving forward, humility to serve others, and patience to trust Your timing.

Lord, take the broken pieces of my life and use them for Your purpose. Help me remember that my circumstances do not determine my future—You do.

Lead me where You want me to go, and give me the courage to say, like Ruth: “Your God will be my God.”

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Make it a Willing Wednesday! God is good…
