Sibling Fun
Franny is back with another thoughtful message. You will be blessed and encouraged from her words. Thx Franny.
I have so much fun watching my kids grow up. They’re so curious about how this world works and they love trying new things. I feel like as we age, the magic of the simple fun in life disappears. There are far fewer new experiences, and everything becomes comparable. My kids go outside, play with sticks and rocks, and they use their imagination to create whole different worlds and environments. We go to the mall, “Ooh! Let’s ride the escalator!!!” We go camping, “Ooh, look at the cool bug!!!” “Aggghhh!!! It’s on me!!!” Flicks the bug off “Aggghhh, noooo!!! Thomas why did you do that!? Mama!!!” Grabs bug, puts it on a leaf
In my parents generation, no one could afford to go all over the place to travel and see the world. You spent your money on the necessities and you learned to enjoy the simple things. I don’t know if I overcompensated for the lack of travel as I aged into adulthood, but I definitely went out of my way to see new places in my young adult life. I love traveling, and I love mountains and hiking, but I also find the magical feeling fades faster than it once did. The enchantment is dimmed, albeit still beautiful and enjoyable, It’s just not the same level of inspiration. But when I see my children light up in awe of their experiences, my heart glows. It doesn’t take much at all. A little hike on the laurel highlands trail, fishing at Stonycreek, or walking through Stackhouse on the first day of the year. And it’s especially magnificent when I see that same glow as they talk about Jesus. Both my kids pray with me every day. My daughter is especially attentive at bible2school and children’s church lately. She said to me just last week, “You know, mom, we are like siblings. Because God is our Father, and He had Jesus who is our brother, and even though you gave birth to me, He is everybody’s parent.” I joked with her, “ah, do you feel any sibling rivalry then?” and she immediately shut me down. “No, I love Jesus, I’d never fight with Him. He’s also the best brother to have because He’s not stinky or stupid.” Thomas glares and throws a squishy ball at his Anna’s head
Can you imagine us all treating every person we meet like they were our brother or sister? She brings up an important point of thought and contention. Not everyone is trustworthy enough to be in my circle. But whether they are God-centered or not, Anna is right in assuming we are all ‘siblings’ of God’s family. We are still respectfully stewards of each other.
Make it a Thoughtful Thursday! God is good…
