Seeing Clearly

Yesterday I had cataract surgery on my left eye. This morning I woke up to a new world. Everything is clearer. Colors are brighter. And when I look in the mirror I can’t help but wonder when did I get all these grey hairs and wrinkles? You see, the cataracts didn’t suddenly appear. They slowly got worse and worse, and as they do, your brain adjusts with it. It’s so gradual that at first you don’t even realize that your eyesight is going bad. Then one day you realize that you are looking at the world through a fog. Time to do something about it.
Our Men’s group just finished studying a book by Christine Caine titled “How did I get here”? In it she talks about drifting. Specifically about drifting away from God.
Most people, when they’re first saved, are on fire for God. You’re hungry to read the Bible. You pray about every little aspect of your life. You can’t wait for this week’s church service. You want to be involved in the church. You love spending time with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Then one day you wake up and you realize that your once raging fire is now smoldering. You ask yourself “what happened?” “How did I get here?” You see, like a cataract, it didn’t happen overnight. It was a gradual drift. You got up one morning and were running late, so you didn’t read your bible or spend time in prayer. Then you stopped praying about little things, you can handle them, you only consult God about the major events in your life. Something causes you to miss church one week, and then maybe the next. Suddenly you’re only going to church once or twice a month. Maybe you took a hit in your finances and decided you could no longer afford to tithe. Maybe you lost a loved one and are blaming God. Whatever happened, you are no longer enjoying the relationship with God that you once had.
My eyesight was still there clouded by the cataract. Once it was removed, I could see clearly again. Your relationship with God is still there. If you can no longer see Him clearly, it’s time to remove the cloudiness of this world and the flesh. If there’s distance between you and God , guess what- He didn’t go anywhere. He’s always waiting, ready to welcome us back into His loving arms.
