Running Man Part 2

The rest of the story.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”   Jeremiah 29:11, 13 NLT

Yesterday we saw that Jonah was running from God. Then God stepped in and turned Jonah around and we see that Jonah was running toward God.

If you haven’t taken the time to read the book of Jonah now would be a great time to pause and read it. The theme of the book is really not that difficult to understand. If you look at it from God‘s perspective, it’s the story of His marvelous and measureless mercy. If you look at it from Jonah’s life, it’s the story of a stubborn rebellion, prompted by a mixture of pride and prejudice. If you see it through the Ninevite’s eyes, it’s an incredible opportunity to turn to the Lord and stay off his judgment. If you view it from the standpoint of God‘s world program, it is God‘s heart of compassion expressed to a nation that has not heard His name, has not heard His message and is facing certain doom and unless repentance occurs.

Yesterday we see Jonah swallowed by a great fish and it was his “running to God” moment. The important thing is Jonah and his God, and bringing them back together so that God‘s life giving message could be proclaimed. That’s what the book is about - a man who’s on the run and through an incredible turn of events runs back and does that’s what God wanted done.

The take away is that God has a plan for your life and is willing to allow pain and heartbreak to get our attention.

“My Christian friends, remember to be happy, even when many kinds of trouble happen to you. Troubles can help you. God wants to see if you really trust him. Your faith in God will become stronger as a result of these troubles. So you should continue to trust God all the time. Then you will become stronger as a believer. You will become completely how you should be. You will not need anything more.”  James 1:2-4 EASY
