God is True to His Word
Pastor Candi shares with us a personal look into some tough times she persevered through by trusting God’s Word.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” Psalm 32:8
It was September 1994 when the Holy Spirit spoke these words directly to me. My mom, who had moved into our home for the last year of her life on earth had just gone to be with Jesus. Two weeks later our oldest son went off to school in upstate New York and would not be home until Christmas.
I felt lost.
But day-by-day God’s Spirit led and guided me. He walked with medown along the path of grief. Instructing and teaching me, counseling and watching over me. An incredible journey then ensued.
Times of great joy and immense sorrow have happened since then, yet over and over again, I have seen the truth of this Scripture come to life.
The past fifteen months have been filled with “trials of many kinds.”
Early 2025 brought the loss of Jenny, our thirteen-year-old cockapoo. Being “dog people” this really hurt. But, of course, it paled in comparison to the news that our precious granddaughter was gone. In December, my sister had a catastrophic illness which resulted in her death on New Years Day 2026. In May Big Wayne had to have knee revision surgery.
When the Creator of the universe tells you that “in this world you will have trouble” you know that it most certainly will be true.
The heaviness of the burdens of life can weigh us down. But each trial, each testing of faith, works perseverance in God’s children.
As we “abide under” which is what this “perseverance” means, something extraordinary happens. God’s Spirit works in us the process of transformation.
We are being made to look like His precious Son, Jesus. BecomingChrist-like in our character, our behavior, our actions-filled with the Spirit’s power-this is Abba’s desire for each one who is born again.
His instruction and teaching is readily available to all of us. As we open God’s Word and spend time with Him, His Spirit speaks. In the craziness and busyness of this world, time alone with Him is critical. It is refreshing, refueling, and precious.
As “strangers” on this earth we desperately need our Creator’sdirections.
We must set aside all that holds us back and make way for His words to take root. May the cry of our hearts be like David of old: “I delight in Your decrees; I will not neglect Your Word.” (Psalm 119:16)
Make it a Faithful Friday! God is good…
