God Doesn’t Need Me!
Recently I’ve been learning that surrender to the Lord has nothing to do with me. The deeper I rely, depend, and surrender to Christ, He shows me how freeing it truly is to strive to not live for self but to live fully for Him. My boyfriend’s previous football coach at Grove City College had many phrases for them to all reflect and live by. They have now made their way into my life and have helped me in so many ways as well. One in particular being, “don’t think more of yourself, don’t think less of yourself, think of yourself less.”
Lately God is showing me that full surrender means full dependency on Him, and that means making it about who He is, not relying on my best efforts for Him to work. He in fact delights in me fully relying on Him. I don’t need to have perfect prayers, have the right words, or even understand every word of His that I read. It isn’t about me! God does not need me to work. He doesn’t need me to lift big prayers up, in order for Him to make big things happen. Sometimes I get so caught up in praying the “right” way, or waiting till I have more time to do so, and it’s then that I miss the whole point of prayer. God gave us that gift to strengthen us the more we dwell with Him. To give us a line of connection in this world to the Holy One in Heaven who fights on our behalf. He didn’t give it to us because of how well He thought we could do it. God knows how limited we are, but His power does not rely on who we are. The enemy will try every and any way he can to turn what Jesus gives and make it something that is seen as not as good. That’s why he delights when we make things about us. The second our eyes come off Christ and onto ourselves the enemy has a way to enter in. Full dependency on the Lord is where the enemy has no foothold into our lives, because there we are letting the Lord reign.
One of my favorite songs “At the Altar” puts it perfectly, “Let your heart sing out and tell Him you love Him, don’t make it perfect just let it be honest. He can use anything sit back and watch Him. There’s no waste at the altar.”
God does not need our version of “perfection”, even that comes no where near to His. He just wants us to hand it all over to Him. The messy, the unfinished, the brokenness, the anxiousness, all of it. There’s no waste in it when we let Him use it. He can, and will do immeasurable more than we can ever think or imagine. God is faithful to His Word.
Thank you Jesus that you aren’t limited to my prayers. I’d being missing out on what greater things you have in store.
Make it a Thoughtful Thursday!
God is good…
