But God

Ellen Martell

Ellen Martell responds to Franny’s devotion from yesterday. It’s beautiful to see how God uses our stories to touch and encourage others. Ty Ellen

This story would be heartbreaking if not for God, through the kindness of that nun who cared enough for an angry little rebel to take her under her guided wing to see her better self in Jesus.

And that she sees her stuttering as the Holy Spirit controlling her angry voice, is yet even more revealing of the heart that wanted to be saved. Wow! Praise God for this beautiful woman Franny who to this very day humbles her highly intelligent self to submission to God.

What an inspirational message of rescue and determination with thanksgiving

I am blown away

My husband Richard was given to a foster family not because of drugs but because neither mother nor father wanted to raise him. The story is much more complicated than the usual foster child story as he was left but then brought back to the father’s house at age 15 to meet siblings he never knew existed. There was more rejection even then, and many years after.  Richard was not aware of the anger that began to burn within. He became withdrawn and isolated combined with so much anger, only God could lift him out of that pit…it didn’t happen overnight even when Richard was saved.

Yet, a lifetime later, he is the most loving and kind and thoughtful husband. He loves me, my Jane and “our” grandchildren as his own. He still prefers to be alone mostly except for me. I can’t relate at all but I have come to love his exceptional loving heart even with all its scars. Most love him and some don’t know or care to know him. God can and does…God uses our scarred hearts to accomplish His purpose when we submit. I pray I am submissive to Him today

“For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.””  I Samuel 16:7 NKJV

Humans focus on what is visible—like stature or charm—whereas God sees deeper, assessing the heart (intellect, will, emotions).

The verse advises prioritizing character, integrity, and spiritual maturity over outward appearances.
