Anchor
Bobby gives us a rock solid devotion to attach ourselves to. Great message Bobby, Ty.
At breakfast the other day, P. Ray posed a question to Wayne Johnson and I. When you think of Journey Church, what comes to mind? Wayne said he thought of an anchor. I found that interesting and it got me thinking of what an anchor is and does.
The dictionary describes an anchor as a heavy, hooked device used to secure ships or boats to the seabed. When we go fishing on a boat and decide on the spot that we want to fish, the first thing we do is drop anchor. Because of water currents and the wind, without the anchor we would drift away. But if the anchor doesn’t hold fast to the bottom, it comes loose and we still drift. So, an anchor is only as good as what it is anchored to.
Every week P. Ray has us hold up our bibles. He declares that this is our authority. Not him or the board or the worship leaders.
Journey Church is an effective anchor because of what we are anchored to; the Word of God. Jesus declared,
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.” Matt. 24:35
When we drop anchor on the boat, even if it holds fast, because of the current and wind, the boat will still move. It will stay in the spot but it will spin in circles. So we drop a second anchor and if it holds fast, we stay positioned where we want to fish.
When we come together as a church and we drop our anchors on the Word of God, we help each other to stay positioned.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: if either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
We need each other. We need the fellowship. We need to pray for each other. We need to bear one another’s burdens. Church is not man’s idea. Jesus said “I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
Matthew 16:18.
I thank God every day for Journey Church.
