Winston is Waiting
Candi has found another passion. I for one thought she and Wayne were crazy getting a new dog after their precious Jenny passed away. Who in their 70’s undertakes such an arduous task. But now I’m glad they have and Sir Winston has added so much to their lives and now ours. Ty
Big Wayne left at 9:15am to head to the Red Cross. He is a regular apheresis donor. It is now 12:35pm and Winston remains on the living room carpet where he has been keeping watch. There is not one iota of wildness visible. He is, as the saying goes, as cool as a cucumber.
He began by sitting, facing the door the moment his favorite human disappeared from his sight. Eventually he laid down buthas never drifted off into deep sleep. Every car that goes up the street causes his head to pop up; his questioning is visible. Could that be the vehicle carrying the human he loves most, the one whose presence he longs for? The one that Winston is totally devoted to.
As I watch the way in which he waits, ever so patiently, for the one who is the object of his devotion, the Spirit beckons me to consider my own level of devotion to the One to whom I belong and just what it means to wait on Him.
Devotion to God, in a Biblical context means “profound dedication and commitment to God, characterized by love, loyalty, and obedience.”
Waiting on Him, in our fast-paced, instant-everything society, can be challenging.
It can be stressful and uncomfortable and may leave us feeling powerless.
God may seem far away. We may grow impatient or question when He is going to show up.
But what if we learned to face waiting with the same “chill” spirit Winston is now showing?
What if we trust that God is present in the waiting being certain that His plan for us is good, no matter what?
Our mentors of long ago speak to us through God’s Word.
David states, “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him.” Psalm 40:1-3
The Prophet Isaiah tells us, “But they that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk andnot faint.” Isaiah, 41:31
Micah makes his stand clear: “But as for me, I watch in hope in the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. Micah 7:7
The wall clock now shows that it is 1:10pm and Winston is still patiently waiting on the carpet facing the front door, just as chill as he was four hours ago. He is resting in the knowledge of to whom he belongs.
Thanks, Winston. You have no way of knowing the lessons you are teaching.
Make it a Thankful Thursday! God is good…
