Weigh the Wait
Karen Mayerscik shares today’s beautiful devotional with us. I’m sure you appreciate her thoughts. I know that I do. Ty Karen
Do you play the daily Connections game from the New York Times? Those homophone categories always seem to be the ones that trip me up.
There are several “religious” homophones that hit differently once you notice them: wholly/holy, altar/alter, pray/prey, and so many more. But lately, the pair that stood out with me is weight and wait.
In our daily walk with God, we often carry the weight of a burden—bringing it before the throne of grace—while simultaneously having to wait for Him to answer and intervene.
I’m reminded of Hannah. Year after year she carried the heavy weight of barrenness in a culture that tied a woman’s worth to bearing children. Yet she kept making the pilgrimage to the temple, pouring out her soul to God even when the answer seemed forever delayed (1 Samuel 1–2).
Jesus invites us to do the same: to cast our full weight on Him instead of struggling alone. He offers rest from the crushing pressure of our anxieties. And yet, even after we surrender, we often find ourselves still in the wait—trusting that the God of the universe will act on our behalf in His perfect way and timing.
God eventually answered Hannah’s prayer in a way far beyond what she asked. He didn’t just give her a son—He gave Israel one of its greatest prophets and judges: Samuel.
A beautiful reminder that in the wait, God’s timing is flawless, and His answers are often far greater than we could ever imagine.
So whatever weight you’re carrying today, lay it down. Keep praying. Keep trusting. The same God who remembered Hannah in her wait sees you in yours, and He is still writing our stories.
Make it a Thoughtful Thursday! God is good…
